Coyote Gulch Guided Backpacking Trip
Let's backpack Together
Four Days of Incredible Desert Landscapes in Coyote Gulch
Are you ready for (4) days of backpacking with new friends through beautiful canyons and Utah slickrock?
I have partnered directly with my FAVORITE Guiding Operator (Wildland Trekking) for this all-women adventure trip.
NO BACKPACKING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! This trip is PERFECT for brand new backpackers or women who have backpacked before.
We will be accompanied by (2) badass female guides to show us the way and be with us the entire time & teaching us about the area, even preparing fresh meals for us.
High stoke travel with like-minded adventurers
This trip is for women who want to...
- Adventure, explore, backpack, camp, or and travel but don’t have anyone to go with.
- Step into the outdoor space and learn, but may not have the gear or know where to start.
- Not worry about planing the trip + logistics, but rather, have that already done for them.
- Chase high-stoke days with women from all different backgrounds.
- Meet new outdoorsy friends and build long-lasting community on trail.
Meet your host
I’m Bethany, your highly-caffeinated adventure trip host and dedicated dirt dweller.
I’ve been hosting these incredible, life-changing trips all over the US and world for 2ish years. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing brave women from all experience levels step outside their comfort zones, learn how to set up tents for the first time, and see what their bodies and minds are capable of on trail. How COOL is that?
Getting to Utah & Lodging:
1. You can fly into Saint George (SGU) and take a short Uber or hotel shuttle to your local hotel/AirBnb.
2. You can fly into Las Vegas (LAS) and take the 2-hour STG Shuttle (www.stgshuttle.com – $45) to Saint George shuttle drop-off spot & then Uber to your hotel/AirBnb in town (very close).
Flying into LAS may be a cheaper option. We chose to exclude airport transfers for this trip to give people tons of flexibility for arrival time and airport of choice!
You will need to arrive on april 4th by the late afternoon because our welcome dinNer + logistics and gear meeting starts at 5 PM!
You are welcome to stay wherever you’d like the night of the 4th and the night of the 8th. However, Wildland Trekking recommends the Best Western Coral Hills (this is available as an add-on when booking up until 30 days before the trip) or nearby since that is where the pre-trip Logistics/Gear Meeting will be held.
If you are staying close to the Best Western in town, the guides can pick you up & drop you off for the meeting/dinner. And the Best Western is where we will meet early the morning of the 5th to head to the trailhead!
We will arrive between 6-7PM on the 8th back in Saint George after our time on trail, so please book lodging that night & flights + airport transfers accordingly (fly out the next morning or catch a red eye).
Important Info, Itinerary & Tipping:
*trail width & climbing
and Waste regulations:
- The public agencies that oversee this region require that everyone doing Coyote Gulch pack out all solid waste, including human waste (via WAG bag). We provide resources and training to make this manageable and efficient. Have no fear!!!
- There are a couple sections of the trail that are more narrow & there is a section of the trail on the last day called “crack in the wall” and it’s 18 inches wide & there is unfortunately no alternate route. >> To test the width out, Wildland Trekking recommend opening up a door to 18 inches, turning sideways and shuffling through the opening (without a pack on) – even if it’s snug! That’s okay! You must also be able to navigate the tight corridor that involves a climb up and over a rock shelf and maneuvering your body weight in this condensed environment. We will all be there to cheer you on/support!

–
We will have (2) badass guides with us and their tips are NOT included. >> Tipping the guides is greatly appreciated! Wildland guides, and outdoor/backcountry guides in general, do much more than lead guests down the trail.
Although supported by amazing in-town staff, they often work independently in the field due to permit and logistical constraints.
The guide is responsible for the group’s safety, menu planning (including dietary restrictions), cooking for the group, prepping and taking care of the gear, driving, complying with government regulations, ensuring guest satisfaction, and generally making sure the tour runs smoothly. They wear many hats and are extraordinary at what they do! The industry standard tip amount for hiking and backpacking guides is between 10% and 20% of the tour cost per person.
More Trip Details!
What are the age ranges?
These trips have women ranging in ages 25-55! How cool is that?
Do I have to pay all at once? Payment plans?
There will be a $250 deposit to reserve your spot and you can pay as you go (as much as you want at a time) on your Wildland Trekking account. The remainder of your payment ($1,900) is due 60 days prior to the trip. The deposit is refundable minus $50 fee if you cancel outside of the 60 trip window.
Do most people come as strangers?
Yes! Which is the BEST part because you will walk away with new rad friends. I would say 95% of travelers come solo and don’t know anyone else on the trip. 🙂
What gear is included?
You will be provided a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent (solo tents are available at no extra cost), multi-day pack, trekking poles, and neoprene socks!
You will need to bring your personal items, clothes, headlamp, and water bladder (filtered water provided daily). Don’t worry – you will get a FULL packing list.
You can bring your own gear, but it will not change the cost of the trip. 🙂
What meals are provided? Dietary accommodations?
Fresh meals will be made on trail each day of our trip starting with breakfast on the 5th all the way through lunch on the 8th. Our Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant is also included! Dietary accommodations (gluten free, dairy free, vegan, etc.) can be accommodated and you will inform Wildland Trekking ahead of time.
Are the local guides medically trained?
They sure are! They are all Certified Wilderness First Responders.
We will have (2) local guides that are experts in the area and will be the ones driving the van(s), coordinating all the logistics, cooking all the meals together, and teaching us about the local area.
Do I need travel insurance?
It is not required, but it’s recommended!
Will a training plan be provided? How heavy are the packs we will be carrying?
You betcha! I will provide 12-week DB training program as well as step-up programming to ensure you feel STRONG going into the trip! Our pack weight will range anywhere from 30-35lbs.
Are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Heck yeah! Leading up to the trip, you will provide Wildland Trekking any dietary restrictions you have and they will cater the menu to accommodate.
Do I need to have backpacking experience?
Nope! ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS ARE WELCOME! There is so much room for learning on these trips and it’s PERFECT for first-timers or experienced backpackers.
When do I need to arrive?
This is mentioned above and in the itinerary, but you will need to arrive on the 4th by 5 PM because that is when we will have our pre-trip Logistics & Gear Meeting and then enjoy a Welcome Dinner together (included). // Pre + post lodging is not included, but many travelers will share rooms to split the cost. 🙂
Will there be a group chat?
Yes! 6 months out, a group chat will be started where everyone can virtually meet, chat about sharing hotel rooms before/after, asking questions, and sharing the stoke!
